Reinforcement in Class Room

Reinforcement means to increase the ratio of result by using stimulus like things, money, praise etc.

Reinforcement is of three types.
1. Material
2. Activity
3. Verbal
  •  Always keep on changing appraisal words, for the child needs newness.
  •  Always use reinforcement at the spot.
  •  To appreciate slow learners always give them bodily touch, like pat at their back, hold little closer, let the class clap at their little improvement on response.
  •  Spend some time with them especially.
  •  Share your things with them, like pen, mobile etc.
  •  The kids like to use money mostly, so as parents to give money to appreciate them.
  •  While writing comments on copy or test you must use the name of the child in comments like “Sara I like you style of writing” or smiling face or smiling star and sad faces.
  • You can appreciate child by using edibles.
  •  Reinforce the child by giving titles like; tiger, lion, brave boy etc.
  Being a teacher you can use the appraisal words such as;
  • Good effort
  • Effort is counted here (Also show the lacking area)
  • Splendid work
  • Praise worthy
Actively use of reinforcement has magic spell on performance of a child at school. Everybody loves to hear praise, so reinforcement makes the work easiest for teacher and parents to great extent.

According to Piaget, child from age 3 to 5 years believe on reward and punishment. So, use of money and things is more benefited to enhance their habits towards studies. Lacking area of the slow learners can be improved much by using all types of reinforcement. Reinforcement depends upon factors such as material, activity or verbal words as far as child reinforcement is concerned.  Teachers have to pay special attention towards using reinforcement during class hours.

Education as Consumption and Investment

When the words consumption and investment comes in front of eyes, we just consider that the topic relevant to economic portion, but how this zone quiet effected on education requires discussion.
This has contributed to the popular view that consumption and investment are mutually exclusive categories, and that in most cases there is no difficulty in deciding to which category and item belongs. But in the analysis of economic growth, expenditures that are measure by national income accountants as consumption nevertheless appears to influence growth in the same way as other items labeled investment.
What is Consumption?
Consumption is the value of goods and services bought by people. Individual buying acts are aggregated over time and space. Consumption pattern differ from people to people in respect to income which they spent.
What is Investment?
The action or process of investing money for profit or material on different opportunities prevailing in the market is called as investment.
Now there is problem to understand that whether education is consumption or investment; since expenditures on education are made by households or by the government acting on behalf on house holds out of taxes collected from them. Formal education is clearly consumption,
  Formal Education     Consumption

On the job training is clearly investment because it is an expenditure incurred by business enterprises.
Thus, national income according, which is an out growth of macro economics, treats educational expenditures as final consumption, without making any allowance for the fact that the education acquired by the labor force depreciates over time and gradually become obsolete in much the same way as machines with which labor force is equipped.

                                               (Education as Investment & Consumption)
                                                                                Sequence Diagram

In the end, I would like to say that, it is useful to think of three fold categories rather than two fold. One is the education and next is consumption and investment.

Early Language Development

Responses to Sounds
Infant gives response to human voice by synchronizing their movements. They are able to recognize their mother’s voice by speech and sound. Early language development is very essential stage for parents to understand. Do you familiar with early language development and how this comes from? I have worked with mothers whose children are growing and they need special attention and knowledge especially first born baby-parents.
Early language development was discovered by Peter D Eimas that the infants are also capable to distinguish between quite similar sounds. In 1971, Eimas exposed that one and four month baby can recognize the relation and sound by understanding the words. He keeps the recording turned on while the baby starts sucking on a nipple (Electronic nipple) which contained a switch.

The first sound on the recorder was pa, pa in which response, baby sucking vigorously, but after some time, he bored and show the passive attitude. On this response the sound was changed from pa, pa to ga, ga by hearing the change in the sound, again baby’s rate of sucking increased significantly.

From this experiment, Eimas concluded that baby able to distinguish between pa, pa and ga, ga. These are the linguistic features detectors are the parts of innate structure of human organisms.
The children in early language development used some very simple words like 'mama' and 'dada' use for their parents. 5-6 month old baby by nodding or shaking of head expressing “yes” or “no” and asking for something as “bobo” for bottle and dodo for animals. In early language development, these words help children to learn their native language very fast and quick. That’s why when you hear somebody you will able to understand from which culture, country he/she belongs to. So, early language development plays important role to give you recognition and help you enhance your abilities with better outcomes in whole life.

Maturation & Learning

Maturation is the process of becoming mature while learning is the act, process, or experience of gaining knowledge or skill. In education, maturation and learning have deep relations with each other. For example, maturation comes with passage of time while learning is took by the child from his/her environment, parents.

In 1930’s, Arnold Gesell (Psychologist) born in America who developed the clinic of child development there and received his M.D. He studied about infant child behavior during first nine month. He focused on maturation this era, might be accounted by the fact that the investigators were studying infancy, a stage of development when physical and neurological growth is most rapid and dramatic.

For this purpose, he experimented on two children grown up in different tribes of India. The first child was brought up in cradle board for the first nine month, while other was free to move outside. He computed the maturation and learning in this duration. He simply noted ages of those babies in each tribe started to walk. When, they computed averages, they found that, the cradle board babies walked day earlier than the non cradle board baby.

Dannis carried out study in which two girls whose mother was unable to care for them were, reared under control conditions where stimulation was minimized. Up to the age of nine month, the behavior of girls was similar to that of infants growing up under normal condition. Smile, laughter, motor activities of both the girls was same to the normal growing babies under the custody of mothers.
The first sign of retardation in development, learning and maturation appeared when the gifts were placed in the sitting, standing positions. They were unable to sit and stand properly as compared to the children brought up under the custody of parents. All these signs of retardation established by Dannis were only the self generating.

But by all these observations, Dannis concluded that, teaming also played vital role in the loco motor development. In my view point, maturation and learning comes under affection of teaming, where the child brought up. Parent’s role is most important in this respect especially for the special children who are unable to do things by themselves. It’s easy for the parents to distinguish about retarded and the normal children behavior during first nine month.
