LEARNING OUTCOMES AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROCESS

The relation of learning outcomes to the learning experiences provided during the learning phase of instructions is shown below;

Product with Outcomes
I am going to give you the two options, to choose the best one;
1. Increase proficiency in the use of charts and graphs
2. Interprets charts and graphs skillfully

If you choose the second option then your answer is correct, because the second selected objective describes in general term. It’s mean that, what the students does at the end of learning experience.
Now you will think that, what does the mean of interprets her; Interprets the graphs (e.g. identifies a given point on a graph, describes the trend shown in the graph etc). But this instructional objective is definitely stated as a learning product.
Stating instructional objective as learning outcomes contributes to the instructional process in the following ways;
1. It provides direction for the instruction and it clearly conveys his instructional content to the others.
2. It provides the guide for selecting the subject matter, the teaching method and the material to be used during instructions.
3. It provides the guideline for constructing test and other instruments for evaluating student’s achievements.
If the expected learning outcomes are conveyed to the students, then these outcomes also serve as a guideline for the students learning activities both in class and at home.
